Our little guy has another bladder infection but with a twist this time - he has an external infection of the actual stoma (hole leading from his tummy into his bladder) AND a bladder infection. He's very tired/listless and has had increased pain. It always surprises me how tough he is - if I had a hole in my tummy that was that red and oozy and icky, I think I'd be requesting a medically induced coma or something!!
Dr. B, our amazing pediatrician, came out to the house a while ago to take a look at everything. Since we now have the ability to mix I.V. antibiotics at home, I'll be running his first dose in just a little while. He hopes we'll have more information about the identity of the bacteria by tomorrow morning and we'll change to a different antibiotic if we need to do so.
He'll be coming back tomorrow to use silver nitrate on the stoma because there is a bunch of granulation tissue in addition to the infection. He'll do this in the evening and we'd appreciate prayers because this is very uncomfortable (the silver nitrate burns the excess tissue off) and Noah is already feeling VERY protective of his sore little tummy.
At this point Noah isn't running any fevers and we think we caught this nice and early. I'd anticipate seeing him really perk up within a couple of days but am also praying diligently that he doesn't get worse. Dr. B doesn't want us to give any I.V. ibuprofen for the discomfort because he's concerned that Noah could still get "sicker" and we don't want to mask a fever. I'm trusting that this will be relatively uneventful and that we'll have our chipper little guy back before we know it!!
We'll be interviewing a new nurse on Friday and would appreciate prayers for this as well - if she works out, she'd be able to cover Friday-Sunday each week and we'd have nursing 7 days every week.
