Here is the Thursday night update:
As many of you read on Kate's facebook post, Noah's urinary tract infection was caused by a bacteria named stenotrophomonas. It is a vicious bacteria that is not sensitive to many antibiotics and Noah is allergic to the antibiotic that kills it best. The bacteria is hard to kill and particularly clings to plastic, so Noah's new suprapubic catether can harbor it. As can his broviac. At this point, they are thinking Noah is colonized by this bacteria and will need periodic antibiotic bladder washes to keep the bacteria at bay.
Right now, they are hoping to insert the dual lumen broviac on Monday as long as Noah hasn't had a fever in the previous 24 hours.
Also, Noah's suprapubic catheter isn't working correctly. It is leaking a lot and that is not good. The urologist and his residents are working on it. Pray for wisdom for them.
Kate is still tired and asks we pray for sleep for her and Noah. She is very appreciative of all the care provided for her by the people in W-S.
